  1. It's not a bad thing at all.  Your class sizes are often smaller, which means more personal help from your instructor (they see you as a person, not a number).  It's also cheaper then a 4 year college.  It's also a good idea to get your associates degree and then continue on to a 4 yr college (also cost savings).  You will make more $$ than someone who only has a diploma or GED.  Your 4 year degree grads as a rule make more $$$.

  2. Honestly, in today's world most people need to have a B.A. Often times, professional jobs require a graduate degree or higher. Everyone from the standard librarian to the museum worker need to have masters' degrees. Also, because of the world we live in, the school you go to does matter when it comes to getting a good job. As in all things in life, there are a few exceptions to the rule. But, in most cases, the average joe needs to have at least a four-year degree from a credible college to have a well paying/good career.

  3. Community college is a bad thing and is frowned upon. They are looked at as joke institutions. It's better you go away for college, because going to a local school sucks, trust me on that one. When you're away, it's like you become part of a community, have the chance to meet great people, and have lots of fun(my friends say so). However, when you go to a local school, there is barely any communication, no one knows each other, and there is nothing going on at the campus. Just people coming and going. These are referred to as commuter schools, and I am telling you to stay away!

Also, someone said you NEED at least a 4 year degree. That is not true. There are plenty of great careers that don't require a 4 year degree. You can go to trade school, or be a cop, postal worker, firefighter, stock broker, real estate broker, Air traffic controller, electrician or other things if you don't really want to go to school.

  4. It is not looked down upon at all. You can continue onto a 4 year if you like or walk away with an associates that could help you get SOME decent jobs straight away. I am in graduate school now and my two years at community college did not hinder me in getting into any graduate school or undergraduate universities when it was time to apply.

  5. For a well paying career you'll need to go beyond community college. In some states CC's feed into the state U's which is a good deal. If you live in a state where this is not the case, going to a CC makes it tougher to end up at a good 4 year college. A CC is not ideal if you have a choice, but you can make it work if you need to.
