Is going to college worth it or is it a waste of time

When you get out of college, the salary you make for your new career should be at least $50,000, for every year you spent in college. Like, if you had to go to college for 2 years, your salary should be at least $100,000, 4 years - $200,000, 8 years - $400,000, etc....

Also, you spend almost half a decade in college just to graduate and die in a car accident, what was the point. What is the point of spending years in college when you could die at any minute. If you knew you were going to die in two years, would you go to a 4 year college, think about it, life is too short to waste your time.

  1. About the only people I know who are making 200K right out of college are professional athletes.

I guess it really depends on your major and the job opportunities coming out of college.  It also depends on your work ethic, which few really have these days.  Most people think the object to life is making the most money while working the fewest hours.

Most of the college grads I know are still waiting for that Brinks truck to come rolling into the driveway.

But, remember one thing: College does not guarantee success and a lack of college does not guarantee a lack of success.

  2. Life is too short?  Well with that argument why even work at all?  Why not just take out a bunch of credit cards and max them out doing all the crazy stuff you've always wanted to do?  Just because life COULD end tomorrow doesn't mean it's likely that it will.  For those people wishing for a specific career, like becoming a physician, lawyer, accountant, etc. college is a must.  Spending time in college would then be a necessary step for reaching their dreams and leading a fulfilling life.  Just because it is not right for some people, doesn't mean that it's a complete waste of time.

  3. Last year I was in a car accident on the freeway with a friend. Oddly enough we did not hit any other car and we both walked away without a scratch. We were so utterly lucky. We could have died but we didn't.

So here I am without a college degree, not even an associate and life still sucks because I don't have a degree. I don't know what tomorrow will bring but I'm going to college to better my life and my opportunities.

Suppose I graduate college and still live, well I need to get an IRA to prepare myself for a good retirement. As we have seen you can't count on the government for social security benefits because its hard to survive on ss alone. Thus I'm taking things into my own hands.

Yes you could die any minute, but what if you don't? If you are alive then you want to improve your chances at a better life.

  4. In your case, no.

  5. 1900 a week huh? Well that is not bad but listen your working your a** off!

My mom only works 4  8 hour days and makes double that because she went to college.

Don't you like spare time? Wouldn't you like more pay for less hours? Yeah I understand about the accident and stuff... But that's a chance that I'm definitely willing to take. Wouldn't you?

    Good luck on your decision.

  6. Personally, I would say go with your gut. Don't ask us just ask yourself what do I like to do the best, and ask also would I like to pursue so that I might pursue a career in it. I'm only 13 and I already have a major that I chose and that is : Forensic Scientist.

  7. I went to college and it is not a waste of time.  It will enable you to find a better job and have more of a choice.  My cousin didn't go and he works at a factory.  He works really really hard, a lot harder than I do, and he regrets not going.

  8. I personally think that it is a worthy investment, if not for insurance reasons only.  What if you get injured and can no longer work at your factory job?  By your logic, we should plan our lives based on the assumption that we are going to get in a car accident in the near future.  If you become physically handicapped, it *greatly* diminishes the job options available to you, especially if you do not have an education.  Also, what if you decide you don't like your job in a few years, or that you want/need to work less hours, or what if it closes down?

It is up to you to decide whether it is a waste of time or not.  But, I encourage you to look at factors beyond just the money issues.  College opens up a huge number of possibilities, which you can choose to take advantage of or not.  Plus, it can be fun if you decide you want it to be.  And, many people do not consider learning and acquiring greater skills and knowledge to be a waste of time.  Especially since a high percentage of us will *not* die in a car accident any time soon and will live a long life in which to use those skills.

Congrats on the well-paying job.  You're definitely a lucky person to have that and you seem satisfied with it.  :)
