Question:

Is going to war on ''god's word'' wrong?

There have been many wars waged in the name of doing ''god's will'' or ''in the name of god'' and most people would say that these are wrong.

However, some christians claim that god would never ask them to start a war, but the god of the bible insights numerous wars and attacks on people who don't believe in him.

So how is it fine that god told the people of the bible to go kill people, but if someone says it today you dismiss it as a lie? How would you possibly know? Are you not judging them by your own standards, and not your god(s)?

  1. I don't know but I sure as H*ll wouldn't take part in it.

  2. Anything done 'on god's word' is wrong

  3. I feel that it was "okay" to go to war on God's word in the bible and it is not acceptable now is that to question what happened in the bible is questioning the bible.  I do not believe that is something that most Christians are prepared to do.  It is easy to say "you're crazy" now for there is no proof in another's eyes to justify that it is the "will of God."  No one would know if a persons desire to go to war now is based on the word of God unless God tells them the same thing.  I think that it is impossible to judge on someone other than your own standards.  Even if you are taking your standards from the bible it is still your interpretation of what you have read.

  4. It is never right.

  5. Yes

  6. There is not one single instance in the New Testament where God has called people to war or to kill people.  You need to study your history of Christianity, we didn't come from Judaism most Christians are descended from Gentiles who converted to Christianity without ever having been Jewish.  The Old Testament is the Jewish book that was included as a compromise to Jews who had become Christians.  The New Testament is all we need since it is the one discussing Jesus and it never tells of God ordering people to go to war or to kill anyone.

  7. Doing anything becuase of "gods word" is wrong.

    -CH

  8. The God of the Bible allowed war to be fought over the establishment of Israel, and ONLY Israel. It was never about global conquest as Islam is today.

  9. The bible is evil.

  10. Personally, I definitely can't imagine God asking me to start a war. If He wants one started there are plenty more qualified people He would probably ask.

Presuming God exists, is the creator of the Universe and the ultimate authority etc. then obviously going to war on His say so would be OK, otherwise He wouldn't be God, would He?

Going to war because someone else says God told them to start one is obviously a lot different. There's no way you could possibly know if they were telling the truth or were deluded. The most you could do is evaluate the reasons for the war for yourself and decide whether or not you think it is justified, then it's between you and whatever god you happen to believe in.

  11. Read the Bible, out of context.

  12. There are TWO options, one of death, one of life, one of giving, one of taking, it is a free will to do one or the other, there are TWO anointings, one of man, one of God, this is all in the old testament, which I stand by! It is a God of guidance, not a God of might or force! It is done by the words, not done by the hands of mankind! The horses will be ridden, and taken away! Return to the teachings of Moses and find the right way? It says, do not take the Lord's name in conceit, you best know which name to take to you! Squatters on the land who defile it? Did the Indians defile this land? You have said alot, when you say they ignore the old testament! Not insulting you at all, it is a point VERY WELL MADE! I like that, Holy attorney, it is a law book! we need more JUST LIKE YOU!

  13. God told the Israelites to make war against the 'squatters' in their land. The Canaanites defiled that land, and God made a rule that something should cleanse the land by "works of justice".

Israelites only defended their nation that's why you get to see them in war in the Bible.

  14. Starting war because of 'the voices in your head' is a very bad idea.
