Is gold jewerly really cheaper in mexico?

Question

Everyone always says go to mexico to get gold cheap. I was wondering if that was true. I assume it is since one usa dollar is worth almost 10 in mexico. Please clarify if it is or isn't for me.

I agree with Romina but there is a better place yet to find cheap and sometimes vintage gold jewelry. It is a place in downtown called "Monte de Piedad' which is the equivalent to a pawn shop.

They have more than 100 years of selling and buying gold, jewelry, antiques and many more...It is a great place to find treasures for a great price.

Yes... you can find nice jewelry in Mexico City... there's a place called "La Lagunilla"... as far as i know near that place... there's a street full of gold jewls.... really good prices!!

Although u'd like to find good silver... there's a place called Taxco in the state of Morelos... there's no better silver in the world... than in Taxco... really cheap... even the hotels and food....

You can find some pretty cheap gold if you go to Cancun. Just take a drive to Merida, Yucatan and there's pretty cheap there.

Also If you might want silver, Like romina said. Taxco, Guerrero is good. Be prepared to walk if you go to taxco though. The streets are tiny and it's very hard to get through the city in a car. it's only about an hour and a half away from Mexico City taking the Carretera del Sol that goes from Mexico City to Acapulco.

Because exchange rates are not equal does not mean things are 10 times cheaper.   You just pay 10 times as many pesos as you would dollars

Don't come to Mexico only shopping for gold

Gold prices are set in the world market, so the metal is approximetly the same eveywhere.  But the labor factor in creating fine jewelry is cheaper in Mexico.  There are shops in Oaxaca that create jewelry based on ancient Zapotec and Mixtec designs.  They are unique and a great buy.  Look at some designs in the link below.
