Is ‘good health’ important in the world of darts? History speaks for itself!
The darts showdown has always brightened up the level of sports with its un-parallel entertainment and breathtaking display of magical moves.
Darts has always been the most favourite sports fantasy of people who enjoy entertainment at its best. 2012 has easily been the best year for the sports of darts. The excitement, the drama, the suspense and the level of competition has been off the hook.
On the other hand, the question still remains, how important is ‘health’ in the world of a darts magician?
Darts is the only sport where health is considered as a second priority. However, it is obvious that it is not true at all. Health is important.
To elaborate the discussion, let us go back to the McCoy’s Premier League Darts 2012. It was a magical final when Phil “The Power” Taylor defeated the young and charismatic Simon Whitlock and won the crown of Premier League champion.
What happened after the match explains how important a healthy man is while playing darts.
Taylor was seen uncomfortable half way down the finale. His back was hurting and he barely won in the final moments of the battle.
In his interview, he admitted having difficulties during his play and mentioned that his age is becoming a hurdle in his future form.
“I felt shattered, I don't know what's the matter with me. It's horrible when you're getting older. I had a tough semi-final and I think the thing that got me through that was experience,” said Taylor after his battle in the final against Whitlock.
“The Power” was in pain and clearly had trouble standing up straight during the final minutes of the match. He also mentioned that he may undergo a surgery to overcome the pain he endured.
“But I was really struggling to stand up straight. I'm going to go and see a physio or an osteopath and try and get it clicked in. I've got to put it right,” said a worried darts magician.
Good health is indeed very important.
Who can forget Andy Fordham? The darts legend had everything in his fist. He was the most popular darts magician in the early 90’s.
He fell apart after coming drunk to his matches and was witnessed playing in the worst manner possible.
Alcohol became poison as “The Viking” had a liver failure and he never came close to his old form after that. He retired in 2007 due to deteriorating health.
Health is a key factor for any sports person in the world. A healthy sportsman is the one who grasps glory and others always end up as ‘second best’.
