Is gossip girl the book series like the show?

i've read some of the books, and watched some of the episodes- they're a little similar but not really. a lot of the characters have differences from the  the books. personally- i prefer the show better, and i'm the kind of person that likes the books better than the movies.

similar, but the book is obviously more detailed and more happens. It's like the show, the plot is more interesting in the books though.
