Is goth satanism???..?

hey,theres this girl at my school who said she is goth then next thing you know all the girls in our class are saying she "OMG!!! she worships the devil". I dont know if this is true and i dont want to go out there and judge because i still am friendly to this goth girl but please explain to me what being a goth is, and can u be christian and goth and is goth a religion??

it just means that you like black

people thought i was gothic but I'm not and they thought that i worshiped the devil also and i was a christian

now I'm nihilist but you can go look that up.

and yes you can be gothic and christian

just tell that girl to not listen to those girls

or threaten the girls saying you will slit their throats if they dont stop.

Not at all. That's just stupid judgemental kids. In general, I'm not a fan of the whole labeling thing in general, but yeah that's not what it means at all. Some are, but some of all kinds of people are. Goth is not really a religion.. it's just a style.. well not really a sort of mentality usually comes with it, but like I said I dont like using labels or anything.. so yeah... but overall, no it is not. And Christians can be 'goth'.

Goth isn't a religion, it's just a style. Dark hair, dark clothing and what not. If she does worship the devil, it has nothing to do with the fact that she's goth.

*sigh* you just got a glimpse of what alot of people in the various music subcultures have to deal with... stereotypes.

First off, what goth is... a music subculture started in the late 70's/early 80's that came out of post punk.  The actual genre of music is called goth rock and here are some examples of bands:

45 grave, Christian Death (the older band by the name not the newer one), Bauhaus, the Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cult, The Mission UK, etc..

And more recently: Voltaire, Bella Morte, the Birthday Party, Anders Manga, London after Midnight, Cruxshadows, etc..

(please note Marylin Manson, and Evanessence are NOT goth rock, they are shock rock and alternative respectively.)

The "goth" looks originally came from the fans dressing like their favorite band members... which was a dark "new romantic" look fashion wise.  (take a look at the Cure and other 70 and 80's bands to get an idea on the looks.)  Heck the term "goth" actually started as an insult by a music journalist in an article reviewing one of the original goth rock bands, and it stuck.  (gothic/goth being originally germanic meaning barbaric... based off the original goth tribes during the roman empire.)

Goth has nothing to do with religion, there are people from virtually any religion who are goths... in fact most of my friends who are goths are actually christians of one denomination or another.  (Look up the Fox interview with Voltaire on youtube sometime, he gives a good explanation about this stuff for people)

Oh and mancini... gothic is the type of architecture (as well as a form of literature/art), not goth.

but she could easily be a muslim goth, a jewish goth or a buddhist goth (admittedly most religions frown on  the goth look)

goth is not a religion. its more like a style. They listen to like I guess its considered heavy metal music and usually dress darkly but in no way does it mean that they worship the devil. They can be any religion or maybe no religion but that doesnt mean they deserve to be called devil worshipers. ♥

im not completely sure but all of the goth people i know are really cool and they go to church. i always thought goth was just wering black all the time, but apparently not. Just because she says shes goth doesnt mean she worships the devil. Besides why do you have to judge her, better yet why does anyone? People can express their selves anyway they want and no one should have a problem with that! Besides if you are friendly to her you should get to know her more, it's bad enough for her having people say that to her when it may not even be true.
