not rich country.average country
Greece is a developed and rich country. Actually it is the 22nd most developed country in the world (see Human Development Index 2010), with a per capita income of around 30,000 USD. This is similar to EU countries like Italy and Spain. So yes Greece is a rich country, not the richest of course, but defenately not poor! Bear in mind that "being rich" doesnt always mean "being the most developed" or "having the best quality of life". Luxembourg is richer than Greece, but Greece has a higher human development than Luxembourg.

hello and from me .
I am Greek man and i am praud how i am Greek
BY GREECE is a country that has no major industrial personality but has too many civil servants who are not productive. Indeed, the previous New Democracy government has appointed too many public officials unnecessarily.Papandreou should not hurt the little money SMALL citizens (wages, pensions hunger, private sector employment), but we must act with courage and dignity to the Greeks who voted to clear the dirty area of the public that is increasingly lazy at the expense Greeks of other workers in the private sector.
If doing these movements in public sector has many unproductive employees, and download and taxation at 20%, and development there will be repaying their debts to creditors. Moreover, money is allocated and available for payments into the public sector.
Let finally put an end to this mismanagement of money.
Greece is proud as a country and will need somewhere to ask and apologize for the mistakes they have committed against the past and not trying to denigrate the world. No Responsibility All Greek to errors are crooks who have reached the country in such situations.

As Im greek, i would like to say, that Greece was always a poor country, (economy wise with uk, spain, germany, france), and for sure a developing country and not developed. People used to be wealthy and happy as they lived their simple lives with very little work with half of the people not paying the taxes, the goverment didnt really care as they where enjoying the rich life to be a politician. But, as there is a good side (greeks are very good in playing tricks at foreigners and showing that Greece is a paradise very rich and there is no much bad side in this country), there is the bad side with the other half of the population living in very poor houses and even in 2010 with no electricity! This is a side of Greece that none of you will ever see because there is no connection with public transport, main roads no signs and dirty on purpose. All this until now, that IMF arrived and the rich became richer and the poor poorer. No middle class unfortunately. Open your eyes...there is no hope in this place............
