I normally once a week go to starbucks and get a green tea frappucino. I am 22 weeks pregnant and my sister recently told me that drinking green tea while pregnant isnt good for you. I dont know how much green tea is actually in that drink or anything. I know I should ask my dr but in the mean time just wanted to see what others say

  1. I read that you shouldn't drink it in early pregnancy but i'm not sure about the whole pregnancy. that link should help it is an article talking about it

  2. it has caffeine..................

  3. Green tea has one of the highest levels of caffeine of all teas. It is recommended to reduce or avoid caffeine in pregnancy but a cup here and there is probably fine. If you are drinking more than 3-4 green teas a day, you might want to reduce.

You do need to keep these things in perspective though. Drinking tea is nowhere near as serious a problem as taking drugs, drinking alcohol or smoking.

  4. I would say yes becauase i have seen it done but I would also say when asking questions that start with "is it safe to ......" Or

"Is this/It ok to....." I would be asking my doctor! :) ♥

  5. Yes.

  6. I LOVE starbucks but there drinks have so many carbs & caffeine in them. I would call your Dr and double ck but I would not drink them as often which you did say 1x wk. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to have one here and there if  you have no gestational diabetes or anything.

  7. My dr recommended Decaf, which I tried, and it's good but don't know if you can get it at starbucks but whatever, it's only once a week.

  8. it depends on if you were a regular drinker before your pregnancy.  if your body is used to caffeine then you will do just fine.

  9. in small amounts yes it is ok just make sure that it's not a caffeine drink and I would drink more than one cup... your doc may say otherwise.

  10. yeah, no green tea, no coffee no coke

  11. I would steer clear of anything starbucks while I was pregnant.  I know that green tea sometimes has more caffine than the black tea.  I LOVE starbucks and I thought it wouldn't hurt to just have one caramel frappucino.  I drank a little under half and my head went all swimmy and I felt very very hot all of a sudden and my hands were shaking.  So I have not tried to drink any kind of coffee anything since then.  Personally for me, I would say no.  I don't think it is worth the risk.

  12. Sure. Just don't drink it alot.

  13. Based on these studies, the United Kingdom Food Standard Agency recommends 300 milligrams of caffeine a day as being safe for most pregnant woman. The United Kingdom Tea Council says this is equivalent to 6 cups of tea a day.

However, their advice does not single out green tea. Given that it is associated with neural tube birth defect, you might want to drink less or avoid green tea altogether.

Some experts recommend taking green tea supplements during pregnancy as a way to avoid caffeine. Exercise caution. These tablets contain a concentrated form of extract found in many cups of tea. They can be dangerous to overdose.
