  1. he is over rated

  2. He is not and will not and should not be in at five eigth. Whilst he, himself was in the number 6 he simply played like normal which is straight up clean cut as a ball playing forward, almost anyone in the nrl playing five eigth couldve ran over the kiwi team with the stellar back line which i feel Greg Bird was weakest of talent wise. Why wouldnt he run hard hits HE IS BY PREVIOUS PLAY A LOCK and whilst he was as you put "menacing" the real threat was in the outside backs eg. folou, inglis, gasnier and hayne. Albiet gasnier got clocked early in. He is a talented young man but he is simply not as naturally good at the five eigth position as say jarrod mullen who can play in both halve positions and luke walsh who plays primarily at halfback. Even though Greg Bird played a good game, he truly didnt deserve the placing on the team to begin with ,Greg Inglis has more rights to the job then Bird, his only reason of getting the position was his familiarity with Ricky Stuart and the snubbing Matt King on the wing which whilst suprising with his current form where Inglis himself played only made the fit better.

In conclusion i feel Greg Bird is not as good as Lockyer in any way shape or form. His only possible advantage is atheletism for his size and his ability to make bigger hits then him. I also doubt he would be an incumbant starter after Lockyer retires.

  3. no way

  4. As a 5/8 no he is not. Bird has the perfect attributes for a lock as he is a big, mobile, ball playing forward. Locky has the kicking and passing game and is more of a leader on the field. Bird is more of a running 5/8 which typifies why he should be at lock. And just look at the Thurston-Lockyer combination for the past two years and that should explain everything for you.

  5. hahah

look bird played well against the kiwis

but seriously no one is better the dazza

    in my eyes anyway

  6. NO HE IS NOT

  7. Who's this "locky" that you are comparing bird to? I'd guess that bird is better than this "locky" guy, since I've never heard of him. I think too that bird's record shows that he's a good player and not just lucky to be playing.

  8. Don't know...

  9. I think locky has more skills to offer, where Bird is more aggressive, but for me it is locky as well...

  10. I don't think you can compare the two - Lockyer is simply a class above Bird at five eigth.  I have no doubt that Bird is a good player - his passion, determination and hardiness on the field are proven - however I think he lacks the tactical vision and passing game that Lockyer possesses.

Lockyer is currently the best five eighth in the world bar none and if he wasn't injured, I think that he would be the first choice stand-off for the aussies.  Bird's versatility and relationship with Ricky Stuart would have him on the bench as quality backup to the halves/lock positions.

I think if the aussies were to groom someone to replace Lockyer, they should look to Inglis instead of Bird, especially given the multitude of quality centres, wingers and fullbacks coming out at the moment...unfortunately Inglis just happens to be the best winger in the world...
