  1. Well Katrina was worse but Gustav also has more potential as well. If it hits to the west of us it won't be as bad as Katrina but if it hits us directly or slightly east like K did,it'll be a very bad for NO.

  2. katrina was so much worse than gustav

  3. It's hard to tell.  As of now, it is expected to be a cat-3 making landfall in Louisiana in a few days' time.

My prediction (I am no weatherman) is that it will veer towards Texas and wont make it to Louisiana (Cross fingers).

  4. as everyone has been saying it really just depends on where it goes in. the thing is the east side is the worse side and thats what side new orleans would be on. right now gustav is a strong 4 so it builds up all the water and even if it downgrades it still has to push that water somewhere i .e. new orleans. gustav  can potentially flood areas that katrina didn't. i live in st. tammany parish which is north of the lake and gustav is going to unfortunently push that surge and lake water right in here. my prayers are with all of us out here. it seems like we just finish rebuilding. a great site to go to see all of the information is www.undergroundweather.com and a great meterologist out here has a website which gives great information. www.bobbreck.com Again, everybody out here lets just pray and get through this

  5. Actually, the potential for Gustav to be worse than Katrina is very real. Katrina hit to the east of New Orleans. This might have saved the city. The storm surge that does the most damage was east of the eye. Gustav is projected to hit west of New Orleans, which means New Orleans could be facing a greater storm surge from the harsher side of the hurricane. It's very iffy right now, 50 miles one way or the other could mean the difference between another Katrina or something much worse. It will all depend how much energy Gustav can suck out of the Loop Current in the Gulf (an area of warmer waters known for pushing hurricanes into major ones.)

Katrina consumed so much warm water when it passed over the Gulf, it took over three weeks for the temperatures to return to normal.
