Is halogen as environmentally friendly as compact fluorescent?

Ikea only sells halogen bulbs....is it environmentally better? can i use cfl bulbs instead?

  1. Halogen lights not environmentally friendly.  They are quite bright, which is a plus... but they produce a high level of heat, which literally means inefficiency.  The beauty of CFLs is that a high percentage of the energy they consume goes into usable light, not heat.

    A better alternative to CFLs would be LEDs... the technology is here, but most companies want to milk as much money as they can out of CFLs before moving on.

    The real solution to your problem is to stop shopping at Ikea.  It's not like anything you buy from there will last more than a couple years anyway.
