  1. itsa seperate martial art but a lot of tae kwon do schools teach it as part of tae kwon do.

and why do you always ad you birthday? it makes me think you are actually like 12 -14 pretending to be older so people will treat you better

  2. it is a totally separate art.

taekwondo is basically korean karate. it is a striking art primarily. japanese karate mixed with taekyon kicks. and different forms (kata/hyung)

hapkido is a total and complete art containing throws, joint locks, takedowns, pressure points, and the strikes and kicks of karate/taekyon as well. originally the kicks were pretty diffrent than taekwondo kicks, but alot have leaned toward taekwondo style kicks in recent years. hapkido is the korean pronunciation of aikido (japanese) but...it doesnt come from aikido, nor is it aikido.

    there are two lines.

Yong Shul Choi, studied (supposedly) in japan in the art of Daito Ryu Aiki-Jujutsu. and he taught it in korea under various names such as...hapki yu sool (aikijujutsu in korean)

one of his students Ji Han Jae suggested the name Hapkido to Choi. later Ji added many things such as taoist breathing techniques, and taekyon kicks to the aikijujutsu. most of what the world calls hapkido is this lineage.

  3. It is a different art form. As kempo said, it is similar to the Japanese Aikido. Just like tkd is similar to karate.

Apparently there are 2 styles of hapkido. The other being combat hapkido. They tend to use more strikes and kicks along with their joint locks and throws.

There are some schools that teach hapkido along with tkd. When I was looking for a school for me and my family. I found one that offered hapkido with tkd. I decided not to attend that school. I believe they were mostly interested in my money than my learning. This guy in known world wide. Olympic coach and a very high rank. I won't mention his name. He has several school where I live. The facilities are excellent. But when he promised me that I would be a black belt in a year because I had prior judo training. I called him on it. He went on to guarantee me that I would. I walked out of the door. I was in awe looking around the workout room, but he ruined it for me. Judo and tkd are nothing alike. As I was leaving he continued to try to get my to sign a long term contract. no commitment..lol I left never to go back. I found another club that taught judo for my family. Later we changed to karate and jujitsu. Nothing wrong with judo, but I didn't have the time then with the start of my new business. I was very happy when my children started competing in karate. They had to compete against that other guys students. My boys were very successful against his higher ranked students. Even a 6 or 7 year old black belt..lol My boys were white and yellow belts.

  4. A stand alone martial art.  They are very different Korean martial arts.
