Is having a amp and one subwoofer bad for the car or battery??

i just installed a 250 Watts RMS mono channel amp and one 10 inch 250 watts RMS subwoofer in scion tc. does having a amp and subwoofer like in my case, does it decrease the battery life? second question, for how many hours can i use the amp and subwoofer when the engine is not runnnin and car is off? its a class a/b amp. good answers please. thank you.

  1. shouldnt effect the battery when the car is on, but when off itll probably decrease the life by 10-15%


  2. it is far from damaging your alternator (for a small car like that you would probably need about 700watts RMS before it put any extra strain on your charging system), and it will only (slowly) damage your battery if you play your sounds with the car off

  3. Like what inktownlegend said, that is too small to really do any damage.  Your stock alternator should be able to power that just fine.

    Your battery will only be harmed if your system is draining the battery too low.  If you were to listen to your system with the car off and the battery power was too low you can do damage that way.  That is the same whether you have a sub or not though.  Other then that it shouldn't hurt your battery at all.
