Question:

Is having a temporary job the same thing as being employed?

I asked a question and said that I am unemployed and folks accused me of lying because I had asked a question earlier that concerned the temporary job I have right now. By unemployed I mean that I don't have a regular, full time job that I can depend on...with benefits. I have a job for the month of August only. This is my last week there...That's not what I consider as being employed.

  1. If you are working for pay - you are employed. However when your assignment ends you will be unemployed by definition.

When I temped I called it my "not a real job" job.

  2. well for as long as you have that job you are employed... because you have a job. But once the job is over then you're unemployed because then you are jobless

  3. You are employed.  You are receiving a paycheck for your work, therefore making you a paid employee.

I know temp jobs can be discouraging, but you never know, they sometimes turn into full time.  Several years ago I was desperately looking for work and registered at a temp place.  They sent me on several jobs, I did a good job at all of them and eventually they hired me internally.  I worked there for seven years.

Something that I would always tell the applicants, was to register with different companies (made sure the boss didn't hear me say that).  If one place doesn't have work for you the other might.  Bug them like crazy, make yourself available everyday and try not to turn down allot of jobs.

    Best of luck!

  4. Yes it's like having a job definitely. That's my definition. But everyone has their own way of defining things, so opinions can differ.
