  1. the answer to this question will vary greatly depending on the car in question

  2. No. Ethanol use is largely political.  Senators in farming states get subsidies for farmers growing corn  that is turned into ethanol.  Its a way of buying votes.  Cars don't run well on gas with a high percentage of ethanol.

  3. Did you know that ethanol is a very effective solvent?

Did you know that ethanol can absorb hundreds of times more water than ordinary gasoline?

And because it absorbs water, it can't be mixed at the refinery and delivered via pipeline with the rest of the gasoline?

Consider that, if your local station does not prepare for its first load of ethanol-blended fuels by draining and cleaning its underground tanks, the ethanol in the fuel will absorb the water, and clean all the gunk out of the tank, and deliver it into your engine.

Consider the polution and fuel consumed by the tanker trucks delivering the ethanol to transfer stations where it is mixed.

Consider that it costs more to deliver the ethanol via truck, instead of through existing pipeline networks.

Consider that ethanol-blended gasoline reduces your fuel economy by at least 10%, while costing you more at the pump.

Consider that the use of ethanol-blended fuels has caused a sharp spike in the price of corn, resulting in higher prices for beef and poultry (cows and chickens eat corn too).

So, let's see:  higher car repair bills, higher food prices, higher gasoline prices, lower fuel economy, more pollution and dependence on foreign oil...no, I think it is worse, not better.

But ConAgra and the other "big Ag" corporations like it a lot.

  4. NOO!!! politicians just want the votes from the first primary so they say that ethanol will be the savior for global warming, well its not cuz its takes more gas to produce the ethanol than yer getting back. its kinda like there using 10 gallons to produce it and getting 9 gallons back.(not up to scale)
