Is having insurance for your daycare legal?

You would think that they would force people to have insurance, but around 6 or 7 years ago, a baby accidently fell in a bucket of bleach and water (probably cleaning the floor), and when the mother tried to sue, they said they had no insurance and he was left with brain damage and the inability to move his legs.

  1. I think if you have over a certain amount of kids it's mandatory

    That is horrible though, something you should know before you put your child in it.


  2. It is actually a good idea to have insurance for your daycare. In many cases, it will be an add on to your home owners policy. But you can also purchase general liability insurance.

    What is illegal is telling people you are insured but not telling your insurance company. Or filing claims that are not covered by your policy or violate the terms of your policy.
