i have a friend that was born in the US but moved to a country in south america (i think it was peru) when he was 2 or 3. he returned when he was 22, and joined the marine reserve. he now lives in ny (he is 34)

so my questions are:

1) is he a true american, despite he lived more years abroad than here (but he told me he loves the USA)?

2) which do u think are the requirements to be a "true" american?

3 would you consider someone who was raised abroad, to be President of the USA ?

  1. I think anyone who loves this country and is willing to fight for and possibly die for America and it's ideals regardless of where their from is a true American to me.

  2. the only true americans are the Native Americans, everyone else is foreign living in America

  3. 1) depends on (2)

    2) "true American" defined by Americans = someone patriot and loves the USA.

"true American" for the rest of the world = native American, or an arrogant person from the US who doesn't know/care about much outside of the US

    3) yes, definitely. he/she would make a much better US president that someone who hasn't travelled extensively.

  4. he is American, what is a "true" american anyways, as long as your born in america, first langague is ENglish and know the American anthem then you should be fine..

  5. Get your head out of your ***. He is a true American because he was born in the USA. He can run for President of the USA if he wants because he is a born USA citizen, no matter where he was brought up.

  6. why not? if he says he is, let it be unless he proves otherwise
