Question:

Is he becoming anorexic?

I'm worried about my boyfriend. I know that only a small percentage of anorexic people are guys, but the way he's acting worries me. He's 182 cm tall (6 foot 1) and he weighs 78 kg (172 pounds) but lately he's started saying he's so fat, and he's eating virtually nothing! I spoke to him at 1 in the afternoon a few days ago and he'd nothing to eat or drink all day! He's one of those 'high achievers'. Not a total perfectionist, but he likes things to be right. My best friend used to be anorexic, and she said it sounds like I might need to keep an eye on him. Does this sound like symptoms of anorexia or am I being paranoid?

  1. well maybe a talk reassuring him that he is perfect the way he is can help.

and tell him if he wants to lose wight, do it the healthy way

portioned meals, and regular exercise (but not over doing it!)

  2. No this sounds serious. I am recovering from anorexia myself, and that is how its starts. Maybe have a secret talk with his parents or your parents and get him some help. You can't confront him because it will all blow up in your face. He will most likely be in denial and wont be able to come to terms with his illness. Hope this helps

  3. You have every reason to be worried. Like your friend said, you should watch your husband closely. Anorexia is a familiar psychological disease that my brother once faced, and it was not easy to change his mindset, but we eventually did. Do not confront your husband by saying that, 'Are you anorexic?' Instead, watch his eating habits, what he does, whether his exercises excessively and the likes. The symptoms of anorexia are usually, over-exercising, playing with food when eating, wearing baggy clothes to hide skinniness, constantly looking in the mirror and self-evaluating, announces that he is so fat but on the contrary he is not and so on. These are symptoms you have to watch for. I advise you to consult a psychologist yourself and ask for directions on how to solve the problem. Or you could just go to your friend who suffered anorexia before and ask her for advice.

I wish you good luck in helping your husband!
