Is he being protective to me or polite, he cares or what? I need your opinion!?

This guy with whom I became pen-pal a year ago, we met in person then he split away (he's in the USAF). We keep in touch and stated we are friends.

He's so nice to me that makes me write him a note thanking him b/c we hardly know each other, at least to the extent people use to when they are close together.

He said no need to thanked him b/c he enjoys our friendship and communications (did I said he's GI). Well, I'm making a trip away and every time I mention something about traveling he sends me messages like he cares about me.

I went to Europe last year and he said to enjoy but don't have too much fun. Now, I'm going to Japan and he said he hopes I take care of myself. It makes me feel flattered and at the same time like a little girl being taking care by daddy. LOL! He's only 4 years older than me, so how you think he looks at me really. Does he really cares or just being protective?

You are a penpal to this man.  And yes, friendships can arise from that.  I would not expect more than that, however.

Sounds like he really cares about you.  There are some good guys in the world, you know?  Part of caring for someone is wanting them to be safe and happy.

Both. He doesn't want you to get hurt or anything. He's looking out for you because he cares. Part of caring is being protective. That's why most parents don't let their 11 year old child stay out till 1 A.M.
