Is he flirting to keep me wanting him

Question

Do a lot of guys flirt with a girl just to keep that girl interested, when they don't even like her?

Theres this guy I once went on a few dates with. He doesn't ask me out anymore or anything but everytime he sees me he compliments me "you look nice...I like your earrings...i like your bracelet..." Also he wants to kiss me (closes his eyes & puts his face forward like i'm just gonna go ahead & kiss him). He likes to touch my hair, and get really close & smell/kiss my neck (he did this once) and he holds hands sometimes when standing or sitting. He wants to make sure I don't get too close to other guys. Last time I saw him he gave me a neck massage.

Can a guy go this far, just for the sake of keeping me interested. He has no plans to go out with me again, he has also

talked about this girl he likes when i'm in the room. so why? Is he sort of taking the p*ss cos he knows I like him. do guys do this?

What's wierd is when we were seeing each other, nothing sexual happened, not even a kiss, and he was not so flirty. He says things like 'remember when we used to play this song' or 'i haven't finished that bottle we had at mine.' Is he teasing me into thinking he likes me?

I have a best guy friend like this. I think its an ego thing, he knew I liked him, things were akward all the time... so when we left sixth form college, I wrote in his leavers book about how I USED to have a crush on him ( I lied, i happen to be in the love with the guy now, but hey) and since then, he's started flirting loads, making loads of physical contact etc.  so yeah, im pretty sure things like this are to maintain their ego.

He sounds like a bit of a player, he wants to keep you interested in him. next time he closes his eyes to kiss you maybe you should just laugh out loud and walk away, make him feel stupid.

Yeah, I know the type. They just flirt, flirt, flirt, but never any action. I have the same problem with one guy. I finally just started walking away and ignoring him. He is now engaged and sometimes still flirts. He flirts with anything new that is cute. He just wants to feel wanted by lots of women. It is a male ego thing. Stay away! Stay far away! If you were his girl, he would flirt with others just to feed his ego. Yuck.
