we got two eight week old kittens from a rescue 3 weeks ago. they are 11 weeks old now.

we have noticed that the male will not "meow" at all, in fact he makes no sounds whatsoever. the girl will meow, make little noises when she runs or jumps off things, the male up to now is mute. we have never heard a sound from him.

is this normal? what is likely to be wrong with him?

we are going to the vet on saturday anyway, but i am curious as to what could be wrong with him?

thankyou.

  1. yes not all cats talk alot

  2. i have several cats some make a lot of noise some make none.

    both male and female.

it is probably nothing, but if you are worried mention it to the vet when you see him just to make sure.

congratulation on your new pets and thank you for going to a rescue and then to the vets.

again just relax it is more than  likelly everything is going to be find and he is just a quiet little cat.

  3. Cats are like people

Some on this site complain that their cats talk too much..

You have the opposite problem... quiet cat.

    don't worry

HAVE THEM SPAYED/ NEUTERED SOON THOUGH!

  4. He may just not feel a need to vocalize. The females are the hunters so they are more aggressive. They vocalize more. I have more experience with female cats. But the male cats I have been around have been pretty quiet. They tend to vocalize only when they need something. (to go out or food)

  5. he should be fine because my cat never meows and he is perfectly healthy

  6. I have a VERY loud male cat, but one of my females barely ever makes noise.  She never did.  She doesn't purr or meow.  When she "needs" to make noise (when another cat plays too rough or if I touch her tail), she lets out a very strained, whisper-y "Meh!" sound.  I've heard from different sources that she may have been born with a defect in her throat or that she may have been abused (i.e. choked).  But it doesn't affect her in any way besides her voice.  So whether your kitten is simply choosing not to speak or if it can't, it is most likely that there is no problem to worry about.

  7. Some are quieter than others - be careful what you wish for.  I have one that drives me crazy every morning!!!!

Just remember to ask the vet to be sure he is ok.  :)

  8. Some cats are naturally quieter than others. Show your cat a new tasty treat this should provoke a meow. I have 2 cats, one is chatty the other is very hard work to get a meow or purr from her. Its quite unlikely that there is anything wrong.

  9. My male cat doesn't talk much.  He'll meow if he really wants something, but since I give in to his every whim, he doesn't want for much!  ;-)

  10. a lot of cats are silent an barely ever meow. im pretty sure that he is fine. if your still worried, you can take him to the vet.

  11. Nothing at all probably, some cats talk & some don't.

My 1/2 Persian said very little for 11 years - she has been building her vocabulary since then and now spends hours every day waffling at me.

Nice she has found her voice - a shame I don't understand Persian!
