  1. Yes, he gets visits, called leaves, for 30 days a year.  So he can visit at the end of boot camp in October, again for Christmas, and possibly a couple of times next year, depending on where he is stationed.  You are also correct in that the minimum enlistment is 2 years so the earliest he will be back is 2010.  The after that ... means he could reup (reenlist) for more if he likes it and wants a benefit like higher rank, overseas tour, or just to save more money.  I would not worry so much.  Everything he has said so far is true and he will be able to visit.

  2. US and Russia are measuring their ..... again.

So I would say that he won't be coming back.

  3. That does not sound true. He gets 30 days of leave a year but he can not take more them about 15 days at one time and he can only take them during certain times of the year.

There are many scenarios and variables that can happen..So without knowing what he will be doing I wont speculate and neither should you. I think someone misunderstood someone somewhere in this loop.

  4. Your " friend" gets 30 days of leave ( vacation ) a year to do with as a he pleases. So at any time he can visit his family or you if he has the money to do it.

If he is saying he can't see your until 2010 then sounds like he may be trying to avoid you considering the fact that he told you a lie already about not being able to see anybody until 2010. Anyways the Marine Corps doesn't give 2 year enlistment contracts, only 4.

  5. Send him a letter and ask =) He will love to get letters while he is away. And asking him will get you the answers you are looking for.
