Question:

Is he saving the best for last, or does he hate the red ones?

For at least the last month my conure has been leaving all of the red bits of food in his dish and will eat them last.

I thought about doing an experiment with taking out all of the red bits and only giving him the other food bits, or picking all of the red bits out and filling his dish with them to see if he goes through it as quickly.

What do you think?

  1. Most likely those are his least favorite.  Parrots don't have the same "reason and logic" that would cause a person to eat something last because it was their favorite.  They work in the opposite direction.

They'll eat their preferred foods first and save their least fav for last.

  2. That's kind-of funny, I don't know, you should try your experiment, to find out, lol!

  3. Birds go through periods of likes and dislikes just like people.  One of mine would hate the red one week and hate the yellow the next week.  Leave him the freedom to pick and choose.  It keeps his life more interesting to him.  We give them miltiple toys, why not multiple food choices as well?

  4. With most birds, they eat the ones they like best first.  Many will toss out the ones they don't like..

  5. I think he probably likes them least, my grey does that too, but leaves green for last. I think you should try one of those experiments, especially the one where you pick out the red ones and leave the other colours. See if he leaves any other colour for last.

  6. He's an animal~he hates the red ones.

But that is a funny question.
