Shadow health secretary Andrew Lansley said it was time to "take away the excuses- (If you) Tell people that biology and the environment causes obesity, they are offered the one thing we have to avoid: (Giving them) An excuse."

Well, excuse me, my Mum is fatter than me-it's in my genes.

  1. It may be in your genes, and you may never be the slimmest person, but you can control obesity. It sux- I know I am overweight but you can't blame your genes for being a certain weight.

  2. It's called personal responsibility. Genes is no excuse. It might make you more prone to being a fatty but it can still be overcome.

You can be any shape that you want to be with the right effort, but it's your body so who am I to argue?

  3. I agree with HandyMan,

I have a fry up every saturday with my dad and have done for years but i eat healthier in the week and i exercise and im not  big at all, he's not saying your a greedy b*****d but if you want to stay healthy and loose some weight you need to cut down your portions and exercise.

I still eat the nice things but i balance it out i DONT beleive it's in the genes it's just being lAZY

  4. Just because your mum is fat, doesn't mean you're going to inherit that and can't change it. To say it's in your genes so you can't help it is ridiculous. If you control your diet and do regular exercise you can avoid obesity no matter what your parents are like. Genes may influence it, but in the end it all comes down to whether or not you're looking after your body properly. If you have genes affecting things like your metabolism or satiety, then it may be harder to be of healthy weight, but that just means you need to put in a bit more effort than other people and if you don't, you really are just making excuses when in the end, you lack self discipline. THAT isn't something genes control. That is just you being lazy and YOU need to fix it, cause it isn't your genes fault, it's yours.
