Okay, I am a 14 year old jumper currently looking at this horse to buy. His name is belmont, and together we have successfully jumped up to 4'6" at home and 3'9'' and 4' at shows. Here's the glich, not many people can ride him, he's EXTREMELY hard to ride. When he was 7 some trainer down in ocala ran him into a brick wall and half of his hoof got torn off. He made a full recovery, but is afraid of the jumps. I rode him today and we had no refusals, but he is also very heavy on the hand...i don't want to make the wrong choice and get a horse that i won't be able to ride due to highschool and his abilities...hes 25k if anyone is asking, and i have ridden him for 2 months now...is he worth it?

  1. Most defineley not worth 25k you can get a much better horse that does not have behavior issues for that

i would not pay more than 5k cause of his bahavior

  2. At 15 he is still capable of doing circut jumping, my friend owns a 28 year old gelding and she still shows him every weekend in 3'9" Jumpers. If he goes well for you and you respond to each other and are willing to spend that kind of money then yes he is for you but if you think you can find a horse with less problems that does just as well then keep looking, dont buy him if you know your going to be overwhelmed by problems later, if you want to sell him when you go to college you most likeley can, but you would have to find somone who could handle him and feel confident enough to buy him which in the long run would be difficult.

  3. I would keep looking, he's quite expensive

  4. No he is not worth it, he is way over priced. I would keep looking. He is an especially bad price because the economy is so bad right now that is a lot to pay for that kind of horse. 25k is a lot to pay for a horse of that quality, trust me you will find a better horse and probably for a more reasonable price.

  5. Not on your life. Complete waste of money. If you cant find a healthy, well-trained horse without issues for under 25K - you should not be looking.

  6. It seems like you and him make a good pair! But he is a little pricey. Try talking them down price a little! I am sure him and you will make a good pair!

  7. not hardly! you can get a horse with equal talent and better manners for a lot less money if you look around. there are TONS of horses for sale in and around ocala, fl. for 25k you can get a grand prix level jumper (seriously! that's how bad the market is now).

  8. If you have 25K and do not have 5-6 days a week to ride consistently,

I think you need to keep looking. I think you could get a lot more bang for your buck if you are patient, and find the perfect horse for you. I think you already know this is not the one....or you probably would not be asking us. YOU WOULD KNOW!!!!!

  9. I had a similar problem with my horses behavior and i chose to give him a chance, i couldnt believe that i did it but it was worth it, i felt that he really wouldnt have another chance, and i soon found out that i couldnt live with out him, his hole demeanor changed and we bonded and became somthing totally different, so if you believe that you can take him and you really have the heart for him whats stopping you?

  10. That depends on you. If you enjoy riding him and you just really like him and think he's worth 25k, then yes. He is the horse for you. If you want a horse with better manners, then you can definitely get one for 25k or under. Ride some other horses for sale in your price range and then pick your favorite.

Good luck! Hope you get a great horse. (:
