Question:

Is head bobbing for a new, young sun conure normal?

I have a brand new sun, only been with me a couple days and she is such an interesting, funny, and lovable creature.

She does this head bobbing thing, slowly, but she has been doing it all morning and I want to make sure it is not a bad behavior such as fear, temperature issues, etc.

Anyone have any insight on a new sun conure who bobs her head slowly?

  1. yes its perfectly normal you have nothing to worry about

  2. Yes - it's normal.. especially for a young parrot.  This is something that is related to feeding/begging.  You'll notice they'll often do this when you get close to them, while bending their neck/mouth upward and they'll just slowly bob up/down while sometimes making a low pitched screeching sound :)

    Nothing to worry about!

  3. The bobbing that conures do is not a feeding/begging response...it's just a conure thing. We have 2 and they both do it. One is 3yrs old (a sunday)  and the other is 4 (a sun). Conures have quirky little behaviorisms! They are loveable, aren't they? Our sun will lay down on your shoulder or chest and make squeaking noises until you scratch her head.  Begging in conures (and most other parrots) is when they look at you or something they want, and flip or shake their wings.
