I'm 5'8" and read from a reputable source that height directly affects salary and other things. Does anyone agree/disagree, or have opinions

  1. I am 6' 8" and once I was looking for my friend who is 6' 1" telling some one I was looking for my "SHORT", blonde friend.

  2. Just thought I'd add that I saw an interesting article the other day that looked at top companies CEO's heights and that the average height was 6 foot 4 inches!

It sucks but people always will judge based on first appearances. In terms of your particular case, 5'8'' is nowhere near short enough for anyone, even subconsciously, to discriminate against you, IMHO.

  3. There have been studies (don't ask me to cite) which have apparently shown that tall people do earn more and are viewed as having more authority than shorter folk.

However, at 5' 8" you are NOT short, and so you really don't need to be concerned about this.

Second point, I'm 6' 4" and I'm not a CEO, multimillionaire, Secretary of State in some government or a commanding general of thousands of awe-struck troops. I'm content with my life and think it has been good (apart from the difficulty I've often had in finding trousers and shoes that fit and I like the look of), but my height has not determined how my life has gone.

Physical stature matters, but I think what matters far more is your approach to life and other people. Understanding what you want out of life and having the commitment to strive to get it will take you a lot further in whatever direction you want to go than viewing the world from a perspective a couple of inches higher.

  4. The only thing I know is that women prefer men that are the exact same height as them or taller. Plus, 5'8 is a good height for both men and women. =)

  5. Yes, height is an important factor. Everytime someone tall looks at you they are gonna be thinking, "d**n that guy is short."

  6. I don't know if it is seriously true or not.  I think personality has a lot more to do with it, though you could arguably say that height has a big effect on some people's personalities (ever heard of short man syndrome?).  I would recommend (since there aint a dang thing you can do about your height at this juncture) that you simply pretend that you are the tallest person in the room and you just might trick people into thinking you are taller than you are.  5'8" not so bad either.  I think its about average for American guys.
