  1. Each family and child's needs are unique, so to answer this question with a generalized answer would not help you.  One great thing about homeschooling over ANY other kind of schooling is that one can design the learning according to the learner.  That is a big plus in itself, and in my opinion, the best reason to choose homeschooling over any other choice.

  2. How can it be the same? Of course it is different....just as public schools are different to private.

Personally I think most public schools are bad....Homeschooling is good for certain individuals but not for others.

  3. It depends on the which homeschool, and also on which public or private school you are comparing it to.  Many times homeschooling IS better.

  4. i've done all three. righ tnot im in a christian private school, so far its acually my favorite. to be home schooled, you have to be pretty outgoing, that was my worst experience my far. i sat around my house all day, by myself becauase the only friends i had were in public school. as for like, learning wise. it depends a lot on how you tdo it. if you get a tutor, or go to a home schooling class, then you have a lot better chances of learning then if you didnt. if you dont have a tutor/class then, you have to have a lot of drive, to teach yourself and everything. and get it all done and everything. public schooling, i didnt learn really anything.  but you do have friends, and teachers there, so if you really want to learn, you can go in after school and at lunch to be taught. but, they are all very different, and a lot of which is better for you depends on the schools, and how you are. like i said before, private school is my favorite.

  5. I'm defintally pro homeschooling, but it does really depend on the student themselves.

I was homeschooled until 4th grade and to me it just felt like when I was homeschooled I was learning so much more. Now that I'm in a public school it just feels like the teachers are always repeating themselves. Weither it's because a student doesn't understand the material, they just weren't listening or the teacher as to stop the discpline students like they're five it feels like we're going at a very slow pace because the teachers repeat what they say. Even in honors and advance placement classes! Also I really liked the one on one working and I never had to deal with all of the annoying, immature and rude people that I now deal with.

Alot of people will tell you that  homeschooled children are 'social rejects' or something, which I think is completely wrong. I hate it when people label others. The truth is growing up I wasn't locked up in a school all day so I had time for things like swimming class, dance class, a homeschooling gym class and I joined a T-Ball team when I was little. Now I barely have time for school and dance class and with me thinking about possibly getting a job it's crazy! I just feel that things would be easier if I was homeschooled.

Anyway, this is just my opinion and obviously everybody is entitled to their own thoughts and feelings. If you really wanted me to continue and go into more reason why homeschooling is a better way to go in my eyes then I could (schedule is more flexible, no icky school lunch, in most cases it's less exspensive, more family time etc), but I really don't think you want me to rammble on and on ;).

  6. it will only be better if the parent is dedicated to making it work and it encourages a love of learning for the child. For us yes homeschooling is better because my daughter can learn at her own pace, learn about things she is interested in, not have to compete with a room full of other children, she gets to be with people of all ages during the day instead of only children her own age, she can get up and eat, drink, use the restroom without permission and when she needs to, since she is Hypoglycemic she can eat when she needs too and since she has allergies they can easily be monitored without fear of getting sick or winding up in the hospital with an allergic reaction, she is free to be all of who she is without judgement, ridicule, hatefullness, etc. She is free to express herself in the arts and not just told hwo the picture is suppose to look and get graded on that.

Children in the Public school systems at the age of 5 years old are already being taught how to be prejudice and be part of clicks. It is so sad. I see this firsthand with other children my daughter's age that go to Public schools versus the ones that go to homeschool. They way they treat others is in such disrepect. They have to fight to stay at the top of the classes even at this young age. They fight for position in the classroom. Fight for the Teachers attention. Held to higher standards on what the government says is acceptable for our young ones.

Ok so I am off my soap box. I think if the parents are dedicated and excited about homeschooling then the children will likely follow and succeed in homeschooling too.

Homeschooling Rocks. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

  7. Just look up the statistics, they speak for themselves.A homeschooler would have already done so.

  8. It is Better! You have so much freedom No sitting on you butt for 7 hours! and Your social lif Is SO WONDERFUL!!! I mean Public all you do is spend your day with the SAME people and Not talk! How is that social? But with Homeschool you spend time with People of all ages and a very ecletic group of people! Great is the word that sums it up!

  9. Home school works for us.

Our son has more time for social life instead of spending hours in class and hours doing homework.  He is learning.  He did not learn in public school.

  10. From my experience, homeschooling is better...if the parent is taking the time and doing the work...

  11. homeschooling is choosing not to place your child in public, private, or charter school, and instead choosing to educate your child out of a home-based model. This does not mean the child must remain inside the home to pursue their education. Most homeschooling families have field trips and activities, including team sports, physical education such as dance classes or gymnastics, and science groups or other clubs based on interests. In all cases, however, the parents remain in control of the curricula used and the child does a significant portion of their work based out of the home.

  12. For me it is better. I don't get teased-except my siblings-and I'm not slowed down. I also can take my time if I'm having trouble. The worst part is not seeing my public school friends.

  13. When done right with a motivated student and augmented with extra ciriccular activities and even some unschooling college studies have show homeschoolers performe 2-3 grade better than public schoolers and 1-2 grade better than private schooler.

  14. If the parent is going to take homeschooling their child very seriously, is willing to make that the first priority, is prepared to spend lots of time, and a considerable amount of money in the high school grades for a solid curriculum, then yes, homeschooling might be the better alternative if the public schools where you live are not safe, or are over-crowded

  15. Homeschooling is better than inner city schools.

Homeschooling is worse if the school is top rated.

Homeschooling is the same if the school system is questionable.

  16. I like homeschool better.

  17. Homeschooling obviously isn't the same as public or private school, at least in terms of environment and schedule. Academically, it can be better or worse depending on how it's done. Socially, it has the potential to be better since school takes up less time than when you go to public/private school; some, however, complain that they're cut off, either because of their own lack of initiative or their parents' inability to make sure their social needs are met.

In the end, whichever is better is going to depend on how each is done. There's no blanket statement that can be applied to every situation.

  18. Yes, homeschooling is better than any school system.

    We homeschool our 4 children.

Here are some of the reasons:

School is an artificial environment. The purpose of school is to prepare you for real life. You need to experience the real world to do this.

No where else in real life are 20-30 people age segregated.

School encourages peer values to replace parent' s values

At home each child can work at a natural pace

At home you can modify the curriculum to suit the student's learning style

Schools have a lot more going on than education (drugs, teacher's private values and agendas such as religon and sexual orientation or polical views ,bullying, p**n and other s*x issues)

No teacher cares about you child as much as you do

A homeschooler will not fail any assignment because they can do it over and over,or try varied approaches until they get it right.

Do you really know where your children are? Home schoolers can't skip school!

Home schooling takes much less time because there is one on one tutoring.

Homeschoolers score higher on standardized tests (check out the HSLDA website)

They do not have to be subjected to asking permission to use the bathroom or obtaining a hall pass (training them for prison ? or "let me see your papers!")

Lack of socialization is not an issue. We joined a homeschool sports group and through them have made lots of friends. They see their friends at least 4x a week, after school work for play or at homeschool events. They play soccer, floor hockey, basketball, and baseball. We also belong to another homeschooling group that meets once a month for "open mic" where the kids have the floor. We meet for spelling bees, science night, art and music shows, robotics, science club, chess club...We go on trips to museums, take hands on classes at the local nature center, seaport museum, aquarum and we are planning a trip to a nearby observatory.  I do not spend a million dollars to do this either,as most of these events are created and organized by other homeschooling parents and are either free or very inexpensive ($5-$10).

Homeschooling is great! There is no other way for us!

  19. I went to a private school from kindergarten through 7th grade. Most of the time it was okay, but now that I look back on it I still would have rather been homeschooled.

In private school, I had loads of homework. Probably 3 hours worth of homework everynight. My back was sore from carrying around so many books everyday.

The teachers were beyond mean. They handed out detentions like candy in a parade. There were no warnings--just detention. Personally, I think they gave out detentions so they wouldn't have to hire a janitor.

Most of the kids were snobs. And if they weren't snobs, then they were just plain weird. I wasn't weird and I wasn't a snob so I didn't fit in.

Now that I'm homeschooled, I have all the time in the world to do things that I want to do. When I went to private school all I did was go to school, come home, eat dinner, sleep, and do it all over again the next day.

I have so much time to do the things I love now that I don't waste 8 hrs. a day at school. The only reason kids go to school for 8 hrs. a day is because their parents are at work.

It wouldn't kill me to go back to a regular school--but I'm glad I'm not :-)
