  1. I loved homeschooling, but I don't think being overweight is a good reason to do it.

I hate to say this, but if you have problems with your weight now, you're probably going to have problems with it all your life.  With most people, being overweight is just genetic.

At your age, kids are very rude.  It's just how they are.  But after a couple years, the teasing should be a lot less.  In fact, though, you said "I know that people must say things," so have you ever even heard anyone tease you?

When I was in eighth-ninth grade, I was very concerned with my looks.  I wasn't overweight, but I always wanted to make sure I was wearing the right style, and had my hair done the right way, etc.  After a year or two, though, that really stopped mattering.

Sorry that I'm rambling now... what I'm trying to say is, pretty much everyone at your age is uncomfortable about the way they look.  Being overweight makes it harder, I'm sure, but you just have to tough it out like everyone else.  You will get through it!

I hope you can lose weight to be healthier, but if you can't, please try to love who you are!  In just a couple years, everyone will begin to realize that it really is what's inside that counts -- and I hope you can realize that too!

  2. I home school and I love it! I wouldn't do it for just a year because that will make other people think your a caword....er how ever you spell that word. anyway do it because you want to not because you afraid of what other people think of you at school.

p.s. Good luck with the diet!

  3. i guess that homeschooling is better for u...

  4. I home schooled and loved it. I learned more that year than ever in public school. The answer that it's bad is very far from my experience. I loved it, plus I met other kids who home schooled too so there goes the social excuse. I know kids who graduated and home schooled their whole lives and learned more in that time than public school kids. If you're going to home school it should be for a reason about education not appearance as far as I'm concerned. I know you need a parent or guardian that can be there for you to check in with and fill the role as teacher.

  5. Homeschooling is BAD.  Social indoctrination is the primary purpose of schooling (despite what many would say).  If you aren't sufficiently prepared to enter the real world, you will have difficulties.

Get control of your weight - exercise and eat right.

  6. You already asked this question. The answer is NO. Homeschooling is a great idea, but it's a very bad reason to homeschool. It's just a way for you to hide from your own personal insecurities. You're not being bullied--you're just convinced people are saying things.

Let me tell you something: you are worthy regardless of your weight. Take care of yourself and lose that weight--don't go hide out. You are spending all this time writing these messages when you could be reading about how to eat better, you could be exercising... Take care of yourself.

Besides, it's very unlikely that you'd be able to switch to an online program at this point. They are full-year programs and I doubt they would go through your work to see what you have and haven't done and how it matches up with their program to have you do a few months of school.

  7. well..its is your choice. if you homeschool you probley will get a better one on one education, but if you go to regular school and graduate with an high school dipolma instead of an ged..the work society will value that more. i know it is sad because to get a ged is harder than an highschool dipolma, but the work force kinda frowns about ged. it is a messed up society that we live in. i hope this helps.

  8. either:

Do homeschooling until college or stay. Don't leave and come back, such a hard time for people.

  9. No. That is not a very good reason to homeschool at all. Why do you even care if other people are thin? and if you really want to lose weight, why can't you do that while still going to school? Why does it have to be some big secret? Really...

Now if you're concerned about the quality of your education and freedom to reach your potential, THAT'S a reason to homeschool.

  10. as far as online schools, your options really depend on where you live. There are many good reasons to home school. My daughter has a learning diability and was made fun of daily. My son didn't have anything wrong with him but he always made friends with the wrong crowd.

Many people don't consider home schooling thier children, because they are afraid thier children will miss out on socialization. According to the U.S. Department of Education, it is estimated that 1.7 percent of all students participate in a home schooling program. A greater number of parents are turning to home schooling as an option for educating their children.

This concept once only included the idea of parents assuming the responsibility of educating their own children. Today, the modern home school has evolved to include the use of computers and other technically-advanced equipment. Although home schooling has the predominant form of education throughout history, many people consider it to be a new concept.

Why are parents choosing home schooling more and more? There are many benefits. You can customize your curriculum (just as k12 does). Home schooling enables students to participate in a curriculum that is tailored to their needs. They can focus on specific areas of interest or other areas that require extra attention.

You can use different learning methods, so students don't have to sit at a desk all day. They might go on a field trip to a historical place, explore nature at a park, or visit a science camp.

Most home school based curriculum is self-paced, so if students require extra help on an assignment or want additional challenges, they can learn as fast or as slow as they choose. In a traditional school setting , the teacher can't always slow down and go over an area that a few students may not understand as well as the rest of the class. This is how so many kids today "get lost" and are left behind. A situation like this is easily avoided at home.

Having a flexible schedule is a great benefit. Home schooling provides students with more options than a traditional classroom. Students can set their own schedule and learn at any time. If they want to take a test at night, they have the freedom to do so. They are learning on their own terms.

There are fewer social distractions for children at home. Home schooling allows students to learn without the worry or interference of social distractions. They are not faced with the social pressures of regular school. They can focus on their work and not what another kid in the class might be saying or doing. You don't have to worry about bad influences that your child might have at school (drugs, alcohol, the wrong crowd etc). If you teach your child a certain set of morals and values, they will not learn something entirely different as they may have in a traditional school setting.

Home schooling enables students to get one-on-one attention from their teacher. Whether they are learning from a parent or online teacher, they can get immediate attention for all of their educational needs.

A home schooling program can provide students with choices. It gives them an alternative to the traditional classroom. Whether they choose home schooling for academic, safety or social reasons, they can be in charge of their education. It enables them to create an individualized learning experience.

For many children this is definitely a good option. A student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the school work daily. If a student is dedicated to being home schooled and can appreciate it, they can be successful !

  11. Check into local charter schools.  They are still public schools so they don't cost any money.  You can either take classes there which would be with just a small number of students, or at home.  The one that my sisters attended is a great place full of wonderful people who care way more about what someone thinks and how they act than what they look like.  Also, with six grades in one school and only 12 kids per teacher you have an opportunity to interact with people of all ages.  No more pressure to look and act exactly like every other eighth grader.

My daughter is in seventh grade this year, and she will be going to my sisters homeschool.  Not only will I not have to worry about a bunch of snobs making fun of her weight (she's about 153 now and I think she's beautiful thank you very much), she will also receive a much better education.

  12. U should not let other people determine your life , I'm sure they have plenty of problems themselves it just might be a different problem then yours. If you want to lose weight do it for your health , not because of what people think. beside u can't lose that much weight in that short amount of time.

  13. yeah, homeschooling is pretty awesome, but don't homeschool just because of that.  if you have friends at school then that should be all that matters.

as great as homeschooling is, it has it's downsides too, meaning, you usually don't get out socially as much, you don't see friends on a regular basis, YOU HAVE A MORE CHACE OF MOVING! (happened to me), and other things.  but if you feel like you really really really want to homeschool, then go for it.  just don't do it for a silly reason like that.
