  1. yes.  but everyone else is telling you the wrong reasons why.  table sugar is unhealthy because it spikes your insulin.  Honey contains just as many carbs and thus calories, but it has a lower glycemic index score.  This means it will not spike your insulin as much.  Be careful though, just because it is healthier for you than sugar doesn't mean you can have it all the time.

  2. Yes.  Sugar is nothing but empty calories with no nutritional value.  Because honey is a natural food it is healthier than the processed sugar.

  3. Yes, it is healthier! But in any case it is the same ... carbohydrates. If you have problems with carbs ot you avoid carbs ... forget about honey.

  4. Honey is basically liquid sugar, which is why it tastes practically as sweet, with the addition of that unique honey taste. Honey thus has about the same calorie and sugar content; however, unlike refined sugar, honey contains amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that, in small amounts (they are micronutrients), will help keep you healthy.

Generally speaking, the more fresh and raw the honey, the greater the amount of micronutrients present within. Also, local honey can be of benefit to your immune system, as it can stave off allergies to any local plants that you may have; this is because of the pollens present within that your immune system becomes "used to". Thus, the most important thing for healthy honey is to try and find a local source of raw honey (most store bought honey is pasteurized or otherwise heated, which destroys nutrients). Honey is almost the easiest thing to find locally and raw in any part of the world. Ask around at your local farmers market or flea market. You could even try doing a internet search for honey in your local area, as many local producers maintain some sort of internet presence.

One more rule of thumb for buying- the darker the honey, the greater the antioxidant content. Buckwheat honey is supposed to be the healthiest honey around, but it can be hard to find and I have heard it is strongly flavored (I have not tried it, only read about it).

  5. I guess it is, but i also think that the Splenda sugar is good too, a "no calorie sweentener" :D
