  1. Yes, equitation of various styles is very popular here in Mexico.  Depending upon where you live, you may have a wide variety of options for keeping up.

Since horses and burros are still used for transportation, even in the smaller cities (like here in Torreon), you will find them around.  Most of those are work animals, so aren't going to be where you find your opportunities for riding!

However, you will find that horses are quite prevalent on the ranches and you will have opportunities to ride if you make acquaintance with ranch owners.  Most ride a version of Western style and if you have the opportunity, do make sure you watch an exhibition of charros -- the special Mexican style of riding and rodeo.  It is amazing!

If you ride English, you will most likely find the opportunity for lessons or riding at equitation centers in larger cities.  There are some very fine coaches in Mexico -- my daughter took lessons from an Olympic level riding instructor from France while here in Torreon!

There is a long and fine tradition of horsemanship in Mexico and with a little digging and research, you may be able to find opportunities close by.  Ask the family with whom you will be staying, or check out facilities in the area to which you will be going.

Alternatively, you may be able to arrange a visit to one of the ranches or facilities that offer horseback riding vacations or adventures.  I've posted a few links below to get you started.
