Question:

Is human breast milk ok for baby mouse?

I was cleaning out the garage 2 days ago and was wondering if breast milk is ok to feed the baby mouse I found. The mother was with it when I found it, So I stuck it in a Folger's can so she wouldn't abandon it and the next day she was dead. So I gave the baby some fresh b. milk (I am nursing a 3 month old infant). And have been trying to feed it on the same schedule as my son. It seems to be doing ok, as it has been peeing and pooping. Its eyes are still shut so I am also wondering when they will be open and how old it might be now.

  1. you should try watered down cows milk. it okay to feed it breast milk though. if its eyes are still closed but it has fur then expect it to open its eyes very soon. if its ears are pinned back that means it is still deaf. raising a baby mouse isn't hard at all. make sure you have a nice warm place for it to sleep. you could try a sock or something like that. it usually will start to get fur within a week or two of being born, then a week after that it should open its eyes and then a week after that it will start to wonder out into the cage or where ever you have put it. trust me i have 26 adult mice and currently 20 baby mice in with them! i know what I'm talkin about

  2. I don't know if ok to give it human breast milk. But it sound like it's some where between 1 week and 1 month old. It sounds like the milk you are using should work i gave a baby mouse powder kitten milk but he died.

  3. yes it is okay as long as it takes it from and eye dropper or something like that

  4. its ok

  5. eeeeewwwwwww

  6. I would think that it would be okay to feed that baby mouse since it is closer to its mom's milk than any replacement milk would be. Depending on the age you may have to feed it more or less often than your son. A pinky (no fur eyes closed) should be fed just about every hour to to hours. A fuzzy (fur but eyes still closed) should be fed every two hours. A Hopper (fur, eyes open and mobile) should be fed every two and a half hours and offered solid food until it weans itself off of the milk feedings at about five weeks of age.

If it's eyes are shut it is under two weeks old. You don't say if it has fur or not. If it does it is over eight days if not it is under eight days. If you have any questions you can e-mail me
