  1. Kosher salt is not actually kosher, it is used in the koshering of meats to draw blood to the surface.

Hummus can be considered kosher for Passover under most traditions, however Ashkenazim do not consume legumes during passover.  Chickpeas (a main hummus ingredient) are legumes.

  2. if u buy k.f.p hummus

  3. Hummus is made from chickpeas and tehina (sesame seed paste) primarily. Both of these are permitted by Sephardic Jews for Passover, but NOT by Ashkenazi Jews. So, the answer is "it depends on who you are and who you ask." Chickpeas and sesame seeds are kitniyot - those items that are not specifically chometz (the 5 grains forbidden by both groups on Passover) but traditionally seen as in a gray area. Generally speaking, Sephardi eat kitniyot; Ashkenazi don't. As my brother's rabbi once said "Ask your grandmother. If she says it's ok to eat kitniyot, it's ok. Otherwise, it's not."

  4. i dont see why not. its made from chickpeas and tahini sauce which is made from sesame seeds, also lemon juice, salt and garlic. maybe the salt has to be kosher?

  5. i made mine from scratch.. btw tastes soo much better

but as long as it says kosher for passover or the U or K or hebrew letter chamech looks like a backwards C which all means kosher then its all good

but since hummus is a middle eastern food im sure any brands who sell it would make it kosher

i personally like Sabra if i dont make it myself

  6. the whole purpose of passover is not to eat yeast.. Hummus is made out of Chick pea so its not yeast.. so yes its ok to eat for passover with matza no pita bread!

  7. As long as you don't use yeast , which you shouldn't . Use kosher salt to make so?

  8. It is in the category of kitniyot, which means that it is not leavened, but is forbidden to Ashkenazim.

    Sefardim eat hummus, though.
