  1. I'm a local and I've lived here my whole life. Huntington is a good place to learn but after a while this place gets a little dull. The waves do break year round but most of the time the waves aren't that great. They don't have very good shape which doesn't allow much time to ride the face of the wave. However if you surf the pier you'll get the better shape, but you'll also get the massive crowd that comes with it. All in all, I would say HB is a good place for surfing.

  2. It's a good spot for beginners because it's a wide open beachbreak, so you can have some space to learn. Try the cliffs north of the pier, up toward the parking lots at Dog Beach.

On the downside, the currents can be very strong, making for a strenuous paddle. Also, if you're still learning, be careful on the big days. HB can get some big waves.

Orange County has plenty of surf spots, so you're in the right place.

  3. Huntington Beach is known for its long beach (8.5 miles), mild climate and excellent surfing.  Huntington Beach is the site of the world surfing championships, held in the summer every year.  The city is often referred to as "Surf City" because of this high profile event, its history, and culture of surfing.
