Is hurricane Fay going to hit Sarasota Florida?

to answwr this question   you need to check with your local emergency management dept  they will have all the info  at least 24 to 48 hours before  you hear it on the news   wether it is a hurricane or a tropical storm  it is all the same   it is still a threat to  life the winds  usually arent to bad when it is a ts  but the rain it  dumps  can cause floodding road closures and  not to mention soften  foundations and  cause building to collpse  if told by your local em dept  to evacuate  do not ask questions  just  do it

there was school today in sarasota but the county decided to cancel school for tomorrow since many schools will be used as shelters. all of sarasota high cheered!

Fay is a tropical strom right now and expected to hit the West coast of Florida. It might gain hurricane strength by that time. It will be more predictable once it has passed Cuba.

A mandatory evacuation has been issued for visitors to the Florida Keys. Schools and government offices are scheduled to be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

I live in North Florida, and I've been keeping an eye on that too.  So far Fay is just a tropical storm.  It might never become a hurricane, depending on the track it takes.  

Even if it doesn't come onshore in Sarasota, it's a pretty big storm and you'll get wind and LOTS of rain.  

Listen to news reports tomorrow morning to see whether school is cancelled.

Go to weather.gov. An article of the main track of the storm is on the home page. It said it should hit south florida.

hurricane fay has not caused too much damage so far, but it has caused alot of flooding throught places like fort peirce, but its still moving so who knows if it could hit sarasota, my grandparent live in sarasota so i hope not!

School for sarasota county will be canceled tomorrow. It was announced at school and was on the news. The eye is first hitting the coast south of sarasota. So, we will get some bad wind and rain but it is likely that we won't get hit be the strongest bands because (hopefully) both the eastern side, which is the strongest, and the eye will miss us.

...Fay moving west-northwestward south of central Cuba...more changes to the warnings and watches...

At 5 PM EDT...2100 UTC...the Hurricane Watch on the West Coast of Florida is extended northward to Tarpon Springs. A Hurricane Watch is in now effect for the Florida Keys from south of Ocean Reef to Key West...including the Dry Tortugas and Florida Bay...and along the Florida Mainland from Card Sound bridge westward to Tarpon Springs. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area...generally within 36 hours.
