Question:

Is i possible for 2- 2ohm dual voice coil subs to safley draw a 2 ohm load from a 1 ohm monoblock amplifier?

questions sums it up Im contemplating buying 2- 2ohm dvc subs and a 2000 watt monoblock amp that is 1 ohm stable would that setup work and not destroy either subs or amp? Ive googles and yahooed it in a thousand different forms and all the information i can find is about 2ohm stable amps and 4 ohm systems

  1. A 1 ohm stable amp can handle any impedance 1 ohm or higher.  So 2 ohms is fine, just not any lower than 1 ohm.  

    The wattage will be given in the manufacturer's specs.  It will say XXXX watts RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms, or something like that.  The power would then be split between the two subs equally.

  2. Well you can wire the subs to .5ohm, 2ohm or 8ohm. So you need to look for a amp that is rated at 2000W RMS at 2ohms, Assuming your subs are 1000 RMS each.

    Really we need more information to answer this question.

  3. It's fine to run a 1 ohm stable monoblock amp in a 2 ohm load if you want to.  Just be sure to match up the RMS ratings of the subs to the amp's RMS ratings at a 2 ohm load.
