I would say you are pretty safe with Second Life.  Just make sure you are updating and getting thee MOST current version of SL as they come out.  I seem to remember the computer doing this for you.

If you are connected to the WWW constantly, you need to make sure you have a SOLID Anti Virus working for you (not a free one).  Augment the AV with a product like www.threatfire.com...  its behavior based so will have a better chance of catching zero days... and that product is FREE for home use, but paid if it is a business!

The main two reasons you will get viruses is by NOT keeping your machine running, AND running your computer wiht Admin rights all of the time.  You should only use the Admin right user when your installing something.  The rest of the time, you should be a normal/standard user!

Yes, in todays world on the WWW, you can get a virus the very second you open your browser if you don´t have a good firewall, antivurs with excellent background scanner that works in real time and three or four antispyware programs installed.
