  1. Hey Corey

The guitar will only sound as good as you can play. By itself, the guitar can't play.

ESP , Jackson are good metal guitars because I play them and know how they sound. Stay away from Ibanez. The ones you see that are played by top guitarist are especially chosen for them.

I have an old 1963 Les Paul and the sound is fat, punchy but, on heavy metal and finger tapping, I prefer my Jackson. It has 24 fret and easier to play on the high end and also, it has active electonics which gives a good variety of sound.

The neck is super fast and very low action. You can pick up a second hand for $250. That is what I did and it came with a hardshell case as well.

edit...Ibanez are clones of all the guitars that were made before them. If you want my advice, get a Jackson. Don;t look at the price but how the guitar responses. I tried all kinds at my shop and companies send them to us for fixing and evaluation. The wood used on Ibanez are no way near the quality of Jackson or Gibson because the States have their own lumber yard which ages the wood years and years before they take a tree and make a neck out of it.

Ibanez neck are ok but you will find that OK neck , one out of 20 guitar.

  2. the ibanez rg series are all fine guitars for playing metal, and ibanez is a quality combany.  both LTD and ESP completely overprice their guitars, and i can tell you this as a fact as i know representatives from ESP (and ESP owns LTD).  ibanez rg is a great series that many metal players have used.  ESP and LTD also make fine guitars, its just that they charge much more than they should.  a great guitar is a great guitar, but i'd prefer to spend 1000 dollars for a guitar of the same quality by ibanez than 2000 for ESP.

for metal, quite frankly, I was in a metal core band and I used a fender jaguar with humbuckers, as well as a fender telecaster with a replacement singlecoil size humbucker.  my backup was a schecter, which i think may even trump ibanez in the bang for the buck department.  schecters and fenders are both great.

  3. Well it's a base model RG. It's not as if the guitar plays itself, it's you that plays the guitar. So if your not good at playing metal neither is the guitar. This only applies as when your at this level of guitars the pickups and materials are are all pretty standard and the same. It's all down to personal preference like whish feels the most comfortable to play etc. If your not comfortable playing it then you wont be able to play metal very well, and it certainly wont play it for you.
