Is ice skating like rollerblading (yes or no)?

well im going ice skating on the 9th at 6pm can u tell me because ive neva been before and im worried !!!

it varies from person to person. the first time I skated, it felt approximately like rollerblading only VERY SLIPPERY. most people fall a few times before they get the hang of it, but once you do, it's fun.

Never used Rollerblades, but yes Roller skates. It's the same technique, but the boots feel completely different. I feel great in ice skates but I become a complete newbie in roller skates. God forbid me from ever trying a choctaw in roller blades!

You'll probably survive in ice skates, but you'll feel like even though you know how to skate, you feel like you're learning how to do it all over again.

One major difference: in rollerblading there is no ice.

If you didn't notice that than, no there is no difference, except for the blade and your balance, and the way you move. But generally, all you do is glide in both (unless you want to make it complicated with the twirls and whirls and all that jazz!)

Yes and No.

Rollerblading teaches you balance along with smoother turns, more control and it is a definite plus towards ice skating.

The biggest difference will be that ice skates have a small blade that requires more balance skills and the blade will cut into the ice if too aggressive. The toe stop is closer, too!

Will you have fun and enjoy it? YOU BET!!!

Just start off slow and easy to get the feel of the smaller blades then start expressing yourself. And don't forget, ice is Not Soft.

Ive been skating for a long time, therefore, love the sport, and I tried to rollerblade, but if you ask me they're not the same in any way, shape or form.

do not be worried, its all about fun.  the motions are the same but the ice feels different it is very slippery, imagine roller blading on hard wood floor covered in oil.  if you are a roller blader however that will give you the ankle strength you need.

I've found that there are some major differences between rollerblading and figure skating (that have basically made me a really crappy rollerblader, while I can figure skate fairly well).

Rollerbladers aren't as form-fitting as figure skates are.  They also go higher up your shins just slightly (this gave me a lovely case of shin splints!).

The stopper/break on the rollerblade is on the back of the heal whereas skaters have toepicks on the front of their blade (although a toe pick isn't necessarily for stopping since you can use the friction of the blade by itself to stop).

Since you usually rollerblade on pavement, it's a rougher feel than figure skating, which is usually pretty smooth.

Just take it slowly when you first start out, and you'll figure out the differences on your own and learn how to deal with them accordingly.  Have fun!
