  1. Yes Iceland is very expensive.  Try and stick to locally produced things especially in bars as a bottle of imported beer will cost a h**l of a lot more than locally produced goods.  If there are any that is!!

Make sure he checks out Sigur Ros as well, they are a cool band that herald from Iceland

  2. Not too bad , this time last year you got around 83 ISK to 1 Euro, today it's 116.

But what I really wanted to say was I thought only mums went to iceland !!!! :-)

  3. Iceland is a very isolated island... They do not grow many crops or have any large natural resource being exported. This causes the prices to rise drastically. Expect the prices in Iceland to be Very High!

  4. Better than Asda, but worse than Farmfoods

  5. yes, it's very expensive (at least relative to where i'm from, which is the US...)

however, he does not really need to take along *any* money at all, if he has either an ATM card, or a credit card, or both.

on the way from the landing gate to the airport terminal there will be at least one ATM that dispenses in 4 currencies, and if he misses that, there will be plenty of other ATMs dipensing Icelandic Kronur. so he can wait until he gets there.

also, Icelanders use credit cards practically *everywhere*, so he can even buy a candy bar or a newspaper with it. you just have to know how much things cost, and then you can decide how much you want to charge or withdraw from an ATM.

things like restaurant food is notoriously expensive. one nice prix-fixe meal i had that cost me about $110 would have cost me less than $50 in NYC. even a hamburger plate i paid $20 for would have been about $8 here.

so i would suggest that he just observe the prices, make the conversions in his own head, and then go from there.

  6. Can get 3 chinese or indian meals for £5.

    Very reasonable.

  7. Yes, it's expensive.  Certain things there, such as heat and electricity, are very cheap because there is an abundance of geothermal energy.  That's great for the people who live there and have to heat their homes, but it doesn't help visitors much.  Since almost everything has to be imported, food and lodging is quite costly.  However, I'm sure your husband will enjoy his stay.  The scenery is unlike anything I've ever seen.  An incredible place.  By the way, English is widely spoken, so he shouldn't have much trouble getting around.
