Is idea to build a open kitchen in house o.k or it is not advisable.?

Right now open layouts are very popular so the person working in the kitchen isn't cut off from the activities in the other room(s).  I, however, prefer to be able to close off the kitchen since I don't like the smell of cooking wafting throughout the whole house.

Its a good idea..You can open up the space and in so doing you make both the kitchen and the other room mainly the dining or living room look and feel more spacious. Also since kitchen cabinetry, countertops and appliances are beautiful pieces of furniture in their own right you can show off your kitchen!

Make sure that the exhaust is good to keep the smoke and smells of cooking to the minimum!

It's becoming more common to have the kitchen open to other living areas so the cook doesn't feel "removed" from the family.  Plus, energy efficient home design is money saving as well.
