IS ALL THIS IMMIGRATION GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY?

By and large, yes. Immigrant labor is a drag on wage growth, thus keeping a lid on inflation and interest rates. As a result, prices for goods and services are lower, and citizens can purchase more. And immigrants are consumers too: some 80% of what undocumented workers earn in the U.S. stays in the country. A recent study by economists at the University of North Carolina found that Hispanic residents, 45% of whom were undocumented, contributed $9.2 billion in spending to North Carolina's economy in 2004. By taking the least desirable jobs, says John Kasarda, a co-author of the study, "they have kept some industries competitive that would have gone to Mexico and China

  1. good for Mexico's economy...yes

    A drain on ours....yes

    I like Docar's idea...

do you have a job besides copying and pasting??

  2. Ahhhh.   This guy hasn't done his research and if he hit the Government Accounting Office, or ANY.....ANY reputable foundation keeping track, he would have discover the real cost of the illegal aliens over the coming years will be in the area of 2.2trillion dollars.

Notice please, the article is dated 2006 and while they may well have believed the what they were saying in that silly article, at that time, the Federal Government had not opened the files on the illegal aliens, were not acknowledging the illegal aliens, and were very busy calling them white Americans.

Bear Stearn looked at that report, and those reports of that time, and said a nasty word, and published their own.  OVER 20 million in 2006 and that their identifications were fake was easily shown by the fact that their history showed up two and three years before they were applying for house loans we now call... stupid and risky, that started the recession.

And while Tony tells us the North Carolina University did a report, he cannot provide a link to it.  But it doesn't matter: they took crummy jobs and collected welfare.  The employer who got all the benefits actually paid half his wages and the American Taxpayer paid the rest.  The American Hospitals paid the rest.  The American Social Security under Medicare is now paying over a billion a year for the illegal aliens to go to the hospital.   Walla... the dolts in Washington now tell us Medicare is going broke.

No problem.. us old folks can walk out into the snow and turn off our lights.  Congress will be so happy.

  3. It is true we need the help in some industry, but they take good jobs at a lower wages also and they are braking the law. They also make up of the MS 13 gang.

  4. What illegals, you mean vistors. Where all vistors in this country. Only native americans who owns lands.

  5. NO!  But it is very good to the illegals!  Deport them!

  6. NO!! They steal our jobs, steal our identities, steal medical benefits,  steal social welfare benefits and don't speak english.

  7. Apr. 05, 2006, nice article, not. Because our economy is just as good as it was in 06', oh wait, it's not.

pwned. game over, insert coin and try again.

  8. Actually there are actual reports out in the World that says otherwise.  Their COST TO OUR SOCIETY is MUCH GREATER.  ILLEGALS are actually HURTING OUR ECONOMY.  I am really getting sick and tired of the BIASED Media reports from whichever direction they are derived from.  No longer is our Media UNBIASED.

  9. Oh gawd, more cut and paste LOL..............and an article from Wednesday, Apr. 05, 2006 at that too ; )

Surely you can do better than that, or have you searched the entire Internets and managed to cut and paste all of it here on yahoo.  Running out of material?

    Immigration=good

illegal immigration=bad, that's why they call it illegal.

    Have a nice day.

  10. If illegal immigration is good for the economy then why is our economy the worst its ever been and we have more illegals than we have ever had???

EDIT: Immigration problem stems from 1965 bill

Our immigration problems started in 1965. Sen. Edward Kennedy was floor manager of the new immigration bill to take in many new immigrants from Third World countries. The real problem was the loophole that was inserted called the "Family Reunification Act." New immigrant citizens could bring in parents and siblings, who could bring in their spouses. They, in turn, could bring in their family members--a chain migration. By 1970, there were so many disabled and elderly immigrants that the government had to help them... It all comes out of Social Security and is the reason Social Security is going bankrupt.

  11. No it's not. Tony,if illegals are so good for the economy then why has our economy sucked so badly in recent years? Why are prices sky high yet wages are low?

  12. Illegal is illegal.

Immigrant labor is a drag on wage growth"

Because they take jobs away from American citizens and will work for less than the law permits.  This too is illegal.

    "citizens can purchase more"

    With what?

Give these jobs to American citizens!

  13. how's this for an idea? we ship them all back to their countries of origin and see how it goes? If we need them we will call(don't hold your breath)! Goodbye to criminal invaders!

  14. Yes, illegal immigration is good for Mexico's economy and other country's economies that illegals send money to.

Illegal immigration is bad for the US economy!

  15. YES SIR! IT SURE IS! The illegals put more into the economy and the Government's system then they use in services, so when you put that to the side, you get BILLIONS.....YES! BILLIONS in taxes paid by them every year. Then you get BILLIONS.....YES! BILLIONS in purchases made by them every year to. They are also part of the growing Hispanic buying power in the US, and that's projected to reach ONE TRILLION......YES! ONE TRILLION by 2011. Those are BIG BIG numbers that cannot be replaced if the illegals were all taken away. They are a great part of our economy, but sadly the one-sided media only talks about the negative when it comes to illegal immigration.
