  1. The tax rates in Canada are higher.

Also we get to the highest brackets much much faster then anywere else in the world.

    30% around 29,000 in salary

    40% around 60,000

    45% at 100,000

If you are thinking of moving here, the province with the lowest taxes is Alberta, highest is Quebec.

  2. Definitely Canada.  Canada has higher taxes all around.

On the other hand, they have a national health care system.

  3. Canada, of course.

  4. Canada has a higher rate of income tax than the USA. There is, of course, a trade off for this, as Canadians enjoy more social services than Americans (and some would argue a higher quality of life).

Having spent a lot of time in both countries, I can say the biggest noticeable difference is in health care - Canadians may pay higher taxes but they are guaranteed (mostly) free access to health care. Other social benefits include a year of maternity leave for new mothers, cleaner streets and cities, and a whole heap of other benefits that Americans don't get.

So, yes,  Americans pay less in taxes, but they also get less from their government.
