  1. that very much depends on the state where you live.

    in calif, if it's over 11 miles, it's long distance, even if it's the same area code.

    (and not, if it's less than 11 miles, in a different area code.)

    in CT, it's very different.

    towns get to decide what other towns are local and long distance.

    and the more towns that are local, the higher the rate the whole town pays.

    at least that's the way it used to be --- back when i had hair.  ;-)

    Oddly enough, inside state long distance calls can be more expensive than calls to out of state. (it has to do with tarrifs and taxes)

    But what is considered local and what is considered long distance just depends on the policies of your local telco carrier service provider.

    Generally speaking, check the local phone book "White Pages".  The local carrier that publishes the phone book usually publishes (in the front of White Pages) what areas and cities are considered Local calls.  Anything else will be long distance.
