If you wish to accumulate your funds, you can directly invest in 5 star rated mutual funds. If you wish to have an insurance cover for you, you may go for term assurance or whole life policy like LIC's Jeevan Anand or Jeevan Tarang.

Make sure you hae enough insurance in palce to protect those you love and other things like businesses. This may mean buying TERM insurance instead if you cannot fund a similar size accumulation policy on your monthly cashflow. After you get that policy maximize your contributions to tax sheltered and tax advantaged investments like IRA's 401K's, children education plans, and if you stiull have some cashflow left, yes deposit it into a universal life insurance policy which will ia en extremely flexible and underutilized financial planning tool.

The best option for insurance is a Term Plan. Buy a Term Plan for insurance purpose and invest your money in MFs. You can do it yourself. There is lots of assistance available.

Money is invested in Fund but ULIP like Unit Plus are different then Mutual fund.

Difference is in Charges of ULIP. Always read charge of ULIP (also Mutual Fund) so that you can take an informed decision. When you go for Mutual funds way of accumulation, take a cheap term plan to insure yourself.
