Podge & Rodge, as nihilism assumes atheism as a given, as it assumes there is no basis for knowledge, truth or values and therefor no meaning to life then it does presume god is dead. Its an intellectual h**l I don't think i could ever get out from, so I'm left to ask....does my bum look big in this!!!

  1. No - imagine a world full of completely thick people - we would revert back to the days of cave men - would you enjoy having a man bash you over the head with a stick then dragging you off to a cave to have s*x with you?!

But then again I suppose we would all be thick and wouldn't care - plus there would be no pollution and everyone would be equal - hmm interesting!!

Thing is though - thick people annoy me!!  But then again they are easy to manipulate mwa ha ha!!

Some intellegent people are completely boring too - so I dunno really!

  2. I don't think it's overrated.  I think it's misunderstood.

Social scientists define intelligence as an ability to understand and solve problems (Wikipedia: capacities to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn).

Most people feel insecure about their intelligence level either because they don't get good grades at school or because they are unable to solve some problems or remember certain things.

Not doing well at school may be related to intelligence some times but not always.  Sometimes the teachers are not good at stimulating those who are smart.  They may aim to teach the average students only or they may not understand how some students learn.

Not being able to solve problems or memorize things is something even the most intelligent people have to face.  Nobody's intelligence is unlimited!

But if you look at the definition, it only makes sense that intelligence is very important when making decisions and to maintain success at work and in life.

Be fair to yourself and assess your intelligence fairly.  I find most people don't think they are intelligent when they show a great deal of evidence that they are in fact very intelligent.

It is very trendy to say that one is not intelligent but that one is hardworking.  I hear CEOs, professors, Oprah Winfrey, etc.. saying this kind of thing.  It is ridiculous to imagine that you don't need the ability to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn to be a CEO!

  3. You can never over-rate intelligence Christine. We like a girl who can talk about things other than handbags and shoes. There's nothing we like more than conversing with a woman over the merits and demerits of Existentialism with particular reference to Nietzschean nihilism. The 'Is God dead?' scenario...........

On the other hand we do like a woman with a nice @rse!

    Edit:

As armchair philosophers we’re interested to hear your thesis regarding the assumption of nihilism inherently presuming atheism, but ya see, the thing is, atheism assumes no God existing in the first place but when yer man Nietzsche expounds the idea that ‘God is dead’ he’s assuming that God must have existed in the first place which kind of creates a paradox vis-à-vis the assumption that God never really existed anyway.

Hope this clears up the matter!

Maybe he should have said that 'the idea of God is dead’ but ya see, he was always the man for the soundbite!

PS We’re sure your bum looks great in anything!

  4. Not in modern Western culture. In fact, it has been devalued to a dangerous degree.

  5. is the world run by intelligent people?  Or are all the decisions made by their suits and ties?  I reckon it's those pesky ties.....kill all ties. xx
