U.K is the  United Kingdom of GREAT BRITIAN AND NORTHERN IRELAND.

    It is very simple.

Ireland is an ISLAND not a political jurisdiction.

The island of IRELAND is part of the British Isles .The British Isles being a set of islands not a political jurisdiction.

The REPUBLIC of IRELAND is an independant country having won it's war against the British in the 1920s

The island of Ireland is made up of 32 counties, 26 of which are part of the Republic (ROI)

The remaining 6 counties are part of Nothern Ireland.

Northern ireland is sometimes referred to as Ulster, BUT 3 counties of Ulster are NOT part of Northern Ireland and are part of the ROI

Northern Ireland is represented on the Union Flag by the smaller diagnol red cross (The flag of St Ptrick). This once represented all of Ireland when the UK was formed in 1800
