  1. lots of rich English and Irish lords used to live in Ireland

but they had a big famine and millions imigrrated to America,

so yes Ireland was generaly considerd a country with many poor peasents

but only in the recent past i think

many centuries ago there were very powerfull irish clans

they were the left overs of Celtic civilisations which were very advanced for their time

but that was a long time ago ,civil wars ,invading Vikings ,famine ,and English invasions beat them up somewhat.

  2. No. Not at all.

    (says a non-Irish mainland Brit).

  3. Many people see it as a country of poor peasants because that's how the Irish portray themselves to others.

Here in Scotland, they still go on about the potato famine, their poor ancestors and how they were discriminated against when they came to our shores.

  4. We have moved passed the 19th century.

Have you heard of the "Celtic Tiger?"

  5. No. Why would it be ? some great writers were irish. World famous crystal makers in Waterford. and etc.

  6. No, and we learn to spell .

  7. no, its look at as a country of drunk pesents........

  8. NO!

Second richest country in Europe per capita (and even that's behind Luxembourg)!!!!

I have never encountered a peasant either.....poor or rich

  9. Economists report Ireland's economy is booming.

So maybe you need to expand your reading.

  10. i dont think so.. wish it was seperate from england though(as far as government.) i would love to go to ireland to see my heritage.

  11. The Irish economy is booming,Dublin is a modern European city & a par with London,Paris, etc,we are so progressive, even our big neighbour,UK,look at us with envy. What turned it around for us,was joining the Euro.

  12. Not here in Canada

  13. We are in the 21st century here....Second most expensive place in Europe.  Things are alot up to date that ye think....

The pictures of the "poor" people must have been from the mid 1800's when the famine was, 1845 -1847..

Come here to see for your self, and don't just visit Dublin..  Good place and all but is just a small part of Ireland..

  14. Not for quite awhile.

  15. No.  Whenever I think of Ireland, I always think of beautiful green grass and I just think of it as such a nice place I would love to go visit. My ancestors are from Ireland, and I would just really love to go and see it.  I am American by the way.  Their is no telling what y'all think of us.  lol

  16. What are you talkin' about????
