I grew up in a neighborhood that was mostly first and second generation Mexican. I would say about 70% of the kids I knew wore their socks and shoes in the house until bedtime. This was mostly true during the school months and more true with second generaton. Is this a custom that comes from Mexcio?

  1. Maybe because so many houses in Mexico have dirt floors

  2. We do not have central heating in Mexico and the floor are traditionally concrete covered with marble, onyx or tile. Recently people are using wood or imitation wood, but it is still placed over concrete. Floors are cold here especially in winter. So I would say that it is usual for Mexicans to wear shoes in the house.

I remember once when we had gone to visit relatives in the USA for Christmas and my son who was about 5 at the time pointed out that all the kids there ran around in socks or barefoot inside the house and asked why!

  3. No...I've always thought that that custom was from Americans...the hillbillies of course, and then came to us. =[

  4. will may be yes or may be not...

  5. im mexican. it really is trhe same as in the US. when i go to my friends' houses (good friends) i just enter and take my shoes off cause its more comfortable, it is really just a matter of being comfortable...
